“The Ant and the Grasshopper” Imaginary Theater Production

“The Ant and The Grasshopper” – Coming to the Civic Center theater

“The Ant and The Grasshopper’’ will be presented on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, in the Civic Center theater. The 60-minute play, recommended for grades K-3, explores Aesop’s fables, understanding and appreciating the values of others, and themes of selfishness, growth and change.

West Plains Council on the Arts and Missouri State University-West Plains, University/Community Programs, have partnered to bring this Imaginary Theater production to West Plains.

Preparations for winter are underway, and no one is working harder than the ant family. When a zany, unproductive grasshopper arrives, he provides a welcome distraction for Little Ant, who finds work dull and repetitive. However, when the difficult winter season arrives, the grasshopper finds himself begging for help from the prepared ant family. Will they lend a hand to their lazy friend, or will the grasshopper be left out in the cold? Join us for this musical adaptation of a classic tale about the importance of hard work, and the value of fun and friendship!
There will be two daytime performances for area elementary students free-of-charge, and an evening performance at 7:00 p.m. for the community. Organizers note the evening performance will be in a sensory-friendly format. “If you know a child who lives with sensory sensitivity, this is the perfect way to introduce the child to the theater,” said Paula Speraneo, president of the arts council.

Admission is $5.00 for adults, ages 13 and under free. Also free with Bear Pass.

Phone 417-255-7966 to book your students into the daytime performances, or email info@westplainsarts.org for further information.

This event is co-sponsored by Missouri State University-West Plains, University/Community Programs, and the West Plains Council on the Arts, with partial funding provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a stage agency.
